Though it's been nearly a year since Game of Thrones Season 7 came to an end, fans are still hungry for any news about the George RR Martin series. Thankfully, HBO knows this and shared an exciting tidbit at the TCA press tour.
While a premiere date has yet to be announced for Season 8--the final batch of episodes for the show--HBO programming president Casey Bloys teased that the new installment will arrive in the first half of 2019. That could conceivably see Game of Thrones return to its previous release window of March or April, as opposed to Season 7's July 2017 premiere.
What Bloys wouldn't talk about, however, is what fans could expect from the six-episode season. When asked about the content, all he would share is that it's "pretty great." What else would you expect the president of programming to say about the network's biggest show, though?
Fans are aware of some things about the final season, though. For instance, it was previously revealed that the final six episodes could be feature-length by the time all is said and done. After the Season 7 finale clocked in at 82 minutes, HBO clearly has no issue letting Game of Thrones episodes run long. Given that star Kit Harington says the final season is "bigger than it's ever been," clearly the show is planning to go out with a band.
Additionally, it was announced that several fan-favorite directors, including "The Rains of Castamere" helmer David Nutter, would return for the final episodes. Showrunner David Benioff and DB Weiss will direct the series finale.
