Hasbro has a massive presence every year at Comic-Con. While the booth primarily shows off some of the cool upcoming toy lines the company has planned, one of the most impressive things about the booth every year is the gigantic diorama it has on display featuring Marvel Legends figures.
This year's setup was no exception, as Hasbro displayed many of its action figures based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. What fans got to see was almost like a battle scene from Avengers: Infinity War. Obviously, some of the characters included weren't in the movie, but there was a real "Battle of Wakanda" feel to this display.
GameSpot spoke with Hasbro's Global Brand Development & Marketing manager Ryan Ting and Senior Design Manager Dwight Stall about how this diorama came together and what is next for the Legends line.
Individually, these Legends figures cost, on average, $20 each. Many of the ones seen at the Hasbro booth--including a few from the diorama--can be purchased through Hasbro or at a local retailer.

GameSpot: Coming into each year doing this diorama, what do you look to include from this upcoming, or the past year's, movies?
Dwight Stall: We have giant boxes at the office that we kind of dump everything new into a set of, to keep aside for when we're going to need it for something special like the diorama. We've gone classic [toys based on the comic versions] for the last, I think forever. I don't know if we've ever done a theatrical, on 6-inch, or even on the 3 1/4-inch, back in the day when that was the driving force behind our collector's figures.
Stall: But this year, we went, and we did the math, and I think we have around almost 70 unique personalities sculpted up in the theatrical sense. And we include the MCU, as well as Netflix and those types of components. So, we're like, "That's a lot of figures. Let's have some fun with it. Let's celebrate that. Going along with the celebration of [Marvel studio's] 10th anniversary, and go theatrical for the diorama this year."
How long did it take you guys to set this up?
Ryan Ting: Yeah so we had Tony, our model artist here, leading the charge of about four of us. Took us a couple hours. So, we shipped it from Rhode Island with all the fixtures built in place, and then we do the figures on site. Gluing them down, doing the action poses, and little vignettes. So a couple hours are frantic, on Wednesday, doing that.
The centerpiece is the giant tank in the middle. How did that come together?
Stall: We were inspired by Captain America: The First Avenger a lot. With all of our Hydra army and Red Skull, and there was that scene in the movie when Cap jumps up on top of this giant Hydra tank and blows it up. We're like, "Oh let's build something for Hydra to be storming a facility." So we hired a company to build this amazing giant tank for us, and there you have it. I think it's made out of a few dozen Nerf guns and stuff, customizable. We'll see what some of those elements are in there, and they're all twisted and glued and there you go. Giant Hydra tank.
And when will Hasbro be selling that?
Stall: Hey, you never know. Right?
Ting: Yeah, we didn't come here with the intention of doing that, but people are asking, so maybe we should look at it.
Outside of the motorcycle line with Ghost Rider and Deadpool over there, are you planning other ridables for the Legends, or other famous Marvel cars and vehicles?
Stall: Yeah, we were talking about that. We think the vehicle segment could be more than just motorcycles. We've thrown around ideas, like could Lockjaw be something like that? He teleports people around, so he's kinda like a vehicle. And he's a larger scale item, so I think we're working with a rough footprint on packaging size limits that we have to deal with right now, today. But, yeah, we're open to looking at other things. Let us know what you guys are looking for. What else would you like to see in this type of a section?
Obviously SHIELD Helicarrier, but that's a tall order. A very tall order.
Stall: That would be big. That would be impressive though.
Thanks to Ryan Ting and Dwight Stall for talking to us, and check out more images from Hasbro's giant diorama.
